President Bush met with the press this morning, and gave us this little gem:

This sums up, in a nutshell, the difference between Republicans and Democrats. Republicans usually believe that Americans are smart enough to run their own lives; Democrats don’t. Republicans usually think that Americans deserve to keep their own money; Democrats don’t. Republicans usually think that Americans will lead their lives perfectly fine without government intervention; Democrats don’t.

Liberals just can’t seem to grasp the fact that people don’t need their all-knowing wisdom-filled genius to live happy and full lives. When President Bush said that it was presumptuous to tell Americans how to live their own lives, I wanted to cheer. It’s something that liberals aren’t able to understand. They think that the American people are idiots who can’t be trusted to be intelligent enough to figure things out on their own, and therefore need liberals to come in and do everything for them.

But hey, it would be nice to not have to worry about balancing my checkbook anymore. I guess I should vote for the Obamamessiah and his hope-changeyness! HOPECHANGE!

It’s about time:

The White House says President Bush is planning to lift an executive ban on offshore oil drilling.

In a Rose Garden statement on Monday, the president plans to lift the ban. But by itself, the move will not lead to more drilling off America’s coastline.

Congress must still lift its own legislative ban before offshore drilling can happen.

No need for celebrating yet, though. With Nancy “Pioneer” Pelosi & Co., it’s highly unlikely that any action will be taken. This new Freedom’s Watch ad sums it up well:

Not only is Congress not allowing domestic drilling, they’re not offering any other solutions. They’re just sitting around doing nothing, letting Americans suffer. We’re at least one step closer now, but waiting for Congress to take action to relieve the pain at the pump is like waiting for the Obamamessiah to be frank about what exactly he stands for.

Oliver Stone is making a new movie… about President Bush! Woohoo!

Director Oliver Stone has set James Cromwell to play George Herbert Walker Bush and Ellen Burstyn to play former first lady Barbara Bush in “W,” a drama about the formative years of their son, President George W. Bush.
Josh Brolin is playing the title character, and Elizabeth Banks will play first lady Laura Bush.

Stone will direct from a script by his “Wall Street” co-writer Stanley Weiser. Moritz Borman is producing with Bill Block and Jon Kilik.

Block’s QED International is financing the film, which will begin shooting Shreveport, La., at the end of April.

Cromwell recently made another fact-based foray in a film about an iconic political figure: He played Prince Philip alongside Helen Mirren in “The Queen.”

Stone was calling the project “Bush” when he began showing it to buyers (Daily Variety, Jan. 21), but the filmmakers are now calling it “W.” The film is expected to be ready for distribution possibly by the November presidential elections and certainly before Bush leaves the White House in January.

Is it too early to start taking bets on how craptacular this is going to be?

And how about that casting? Fantastic, huh? Here are pictures:

They look just like these people:

I guess with the magic of movie make-up, it doesn’t really matter. Raw, seething hatred of Republicans and a healthy dose of BDS is much more important. And let’s face it, that’s pretty plentiful in Hollywood, isn’t it?

And of course, the very fact that it is an Oliver Stone movie means we can expect it to be chock-full of inaccuracies, lies, twisted facts, paranoia, embellishments, and conspiracy theories. Look at his past movies.

Let’s use Alexander as our first example. He turned one of the greatest military leaders in the history of mankind into a homosexual mama’s boy with horrific blond hair and a penchant for throwing temper tantrums.

Then there are his past political movies: Nixon, JFK, Born on the Fourth of July… all hyper-paranoid, conspiracy theory filled psychotic movies.

It’s surely what we can look forward to with W.

And just about every source I’ve read echoed the same sentiment: that the troops welcomed him, were genuinely happy to see him, and that the rafters were practically shaking with their cheers. For all his faults, the President is good with our troops, and more importantly, good to them. It’s obvious in the many pictures, videos, and reports in this instance and others that he deeply respects, and is humbled by, them. He obviously doesn’t get everything right — not even close — but it’s instances like these that I remember why I so steadfastly supported him in 2004.
