We all knew that Scott Brown’s victory in Massachusetts would send shockwaves through the Democratic establishment. This is very possibly one result of those shockwaves.
As top Democrats cast about for a way to get health care reform back on track, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi took one option off the table Thursday, saying her caucus doesn’t have the stomach to pass the Senate bill unless changes are made.
“In its present form, without any change, I don’t think it’s possible to pass the Senate bill in the House,” Pelosi said. “I don’t see the votes for it at this time.”
The White House and Senate Democrats had hoped the House could simply approve the Senate’s bill and send it to President Barack Obama’s desk, easily the quickest option available to the Democrats. But Pelosi’s remarks remove that option from the mix of strategy and policy solutions party brass has considered to move forward in the health care fight.
“‘Unease’ would be a gentle word in terms of the attitude of my colleagues toward certain provisions of the Senate bill,” Pelosi told reporters Thursday morning.
… Also Thursday, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said that congressional Democrats are weighing a quick pathway to passage because “I don’t think we want to do health care the next three months.”
“Obviously, you cannot just proceed as if nothing happened, because something very significant happened,” Schumer said referring to the party’s defeat in the Massachusetts Senate special election. “There is a strong view in both caucuses that we want to do some good things in health care and the question is how — how much and how quickly.”
Brown’s win in Massachusetts sent a strong message to Democrats. Their arrogance is finally starting to crack a little, because now they’re realizing that there are indeed consequences to ignoring the will of your constituents. When someone like Scott Brown, who has promised to vote against the health care bill, was able to win Ted Kennedy’s old seat, Ted Kennedy who fought for universal health care for so long… well, it speaks pretty loudly. Democrats have ignored the anger of voters for months at town hall meetings across the country, and they’re finally getting the fact that they can’t ignore them anymore. They’re realizing that voters didn’t really consider universal health care to be that much of a priority anyways. Trying to ram this down our throats will have disastrous consequences, as Scott Brown’s election in Massachusetts has proven.
This is a huge loss for Obama, Pelosi, and Reid.
Obama, Pelosi, and Reid are organizing secret conferences to ram the unpopular Obamacare down our throats as we speak, and I’m sure that many Americans are feeling hopeless. But fear not, my friends — all is not lost. Not yet, anyways. GOP House Whip Eric Cantor is taking action, and so can we. Before Obamacare can become a reality, it still has to be voted into law. When these secret, closed-door conferences to reconcile the House and Senate versions of the bill are finished, the House and Senate will both need to once again vote on it. Pelosi and Reid are very close to not being able to pass it a second time. Reid cannot afford to lose one Democrat vote, and Pelosi can’t lose more than two. So we need to start aggressively targeting Democrats in the House — if we can turn just three of them, then we can stop Obamacare in its tracks now.
This is assuming, of course, that all of the Democrats and Republicans who voted against the bill previously continue to vote against it. That’s why we want to turn more than just three Democrats to our side. 39 Democrats voted against this bill, and Eric Cantor was able to identify 37 more Democrats who might be vulnerable or hesitant about Obamacare. These 37 are the ones we need to be targeting. We need to write them, call them, and fax them. We need to send a strong, clear message: that Americans do not want this bill, and if it is passed anyways, that there will be repercussions.
The 37 Democrats Cantor identified are listed below, with all of their contact information. Cantor was able to find what you might call “weak spots” for each of these Democrats. Use them. For some its abortion. For others, it might be Medicare. Still others are concerned about the budget. So, if you contact a Democrat who is unsure about Obamacare due to, say, Medicare Advantage, then hammer them on that point. Be polite and courteous, of course, but drive the message home about how Obamacare will cut funding for Medicare Advantage. If they’re concerned about the budget, then emphasize the effect this will have on the budget. You get the point. Cantor separated the 37 vulnerable Democrats into three groups (abortion, Medicare Advantage, and budget), and so they are divided below. Contact as many of them as you can and use each one’s weak point to make them understand how devastating this will be to the country.
It’s not too late to stop this. The time to take action is now.

Now that the health care bill has passed the Senate, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi are all set to get this thing shoved down our throats once and for all. Nancy Pelosi promised us the most ethical, open, transparent Congress ever — and here she is, giving us secret closed door meetings to ram through legislation that America hates, without the input of Republicans and a lot of Democrats, too.
Democratic leaders are looking to forgo a formal, public conference to merge the House and Senate’s health care overhaul bills, giving Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the White House free rein to hammer out the final measure behind closed doors and thwart Republican efforts to stymie it.
The maneuver gives Democratic leaders the ability to quickly work through hundreds of differences between the 2,000-page bills and to keep control over the deals they will need to make on politically touchy topics such as abortion, taxes and Medicare cuts.
… An informal conference is likely to reinforce claims that Democrats haven’t upheld Mr. Obama’s campaign pledge to keep the health care reform process transparent — complete with C-SPAN cameras.
“Harry Reid’s continued efforts to throw transparency out the window and shut out the American people on a bill that will affect one-sixth of America’s economy is an outrage,” said Brian Walsh, spokesman for the National Republican Senatorial Committee. “It’s clear his past statements about supporting transparency were nothing but lip service by a professional politician who has lost touch with the voters who sent him to Washington.”
This health care bill is a disaster for America. Voters know it and politicians know it. Taxes will skyrocket, care will start being rationed, and abortion will be taxpayer funded. It’s why Reid and Pelosi are trying to hammer this out in secret — away from voters’ eyes (and C-SPAN cameras) and away from Republicans and Blue Dog Democrats who might be against this monstrosity.
Something like this would have greatly bothered Harry Reid a few years ago, of course. Today? Not so much.
The CEO of C-SPAN, Brian Lamb, wants Pelosi & Co. to at least let the cameras in . Pelosi’s response? Nein!
But Pelosi said Congress has already been transparent throughout the process.
“There has never been a more open process for any legislation,” Pelosi said at a press conference.
Pelosi also hinted that holding informal negotiations–likely without TV cameras–might be the most practical way to push the legislation through.
To call this transparency is to insult the American public. Obama could make these negotiations open and transparent, as they are taking place in the West Wing. But that won’t happen either. This is transparency in the eyes of Democrats: votes being held in the middle of the night, political bribes and afavors being used to buy off hesitant politicians, and secret committees.

Perhaps I have a problem. But after I made my video, I thought, “Gee, how hilarious would it be if we had Obama and all of his little elves?” And I think I was right. It’s pretty hilarious.
According to Nancy Pelosi, yes.
The 2010 congressional elections will be the “toughest midterm elections Democrats have ever faced,” Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) acknowledged today.
Pelosi made the statement in a fundraising pitch for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, urging supporters to help Democrats beat back Republican attacks.
“The Republican defenders of the status quo are shouting because they understand that this is the toughest Midterm Election that Democrats have ever faced,” Pelosi wrote, hinting at Rep. Joe Wilson’s (R-S.C.) outburst.
“They also understand that this is a critical month for health insurance reform and they are trying to deal a serious blow to President Obama’s agenda for moving America forward.”
Pelosi’s comments acknowledge a stark reality for Democrats. The president’s party almost always loses seats in a midterm election, especially in a president’s first term. But Democrats’ ambitious agenda–healthcare reform, climate legislation, etc.–combined with a still-lackluster economy makes Pelosi’s party particularly vulnerable in 2010.
Many analysts have drawn parallels to 1994, when Democrats’ suffered heavy losses in the midterms after an ambitious attempt to overhaul healthcare.
Pelosi implored supporters to help Democrats maintain their majority this time around.
“It is urgent that we stand together as Democrats,” Pelosi wrote in the email to supporters. “With all eyes on the coming Midterm Elections, let us use this critical September deadline to show the world just how prepared we are to maintain a strong Democratic Majority for President Obama so he can keep America moving in a New Direction.”
It’s interesting that Pelosi is urging Democrats to stand together. She knows that support for Obama is crumbling across party lines, Obama’s government run health care can’t even get unanimous Democratic support, and that Americans are furious at the amount of government expansion that’s been taking place since Obama, Pelosi, and Reid took over. They pushed too hard, too fast, and they’ve got Americans scared now. It has nothing to do with “shouting” coming from Republicans, like Nancy Pelosi says. It has everything to do with the liberals themselves. They elected Obama as a moderate Democrat and promised an end to partisan politics and corruption. Yet since Obama’s been elected, Democrats have been unable to restrain themselves at all, and showed everyone right away that they were nothing more than the same old extremist liberals, more corrupt than ever, shutting Republicans out of negotiations, and bringing Chicago-style politics to Washington. Americans don’t like what they see. They don’t like the big government expansion, they don’t like moving towards socialism, they don’t like Obama ruining the progress we’ve made in the War on Terror.
So yes, Nancy Pelosi should be afraid. If Democrats keep things up the way they are, they’ll see losses so extreme in 2010 it will make it look like 1994 was a victory for Democrats.
Well well, what do you know? Here we have video proof showing that dissent was just more patriotic during Bush’s eight years in office than it is now, when we have the Anointed One, the Obamamessiah, to lead us. Nancy Pelosi is addressing constituents in San Francisco in the video below, talking about how she’s a fan of disrupters, and how very American they are. She just loved it then!
There’s a word coming to mind here. I’m pretty sure it starts with “shameless” and ends with “hypocrite”.
Hat Tip: Hot Air
It’s time to burn up those phone lines.
When we wanted to stop amnesty, so many Americans called the Senate that the switchboard crashed. It’s time to do that again.
H.R. 2454, or Waxman-Markey, is the cap-and-trade bill you’ve been hearing so much about. Nancy Pelosi is trying to ram this through the House, and we need to stop it in its tracks. This is the biggest tax increase in American history. It will also make energy and gas prices skyrocket. The economy is crippled as it is; this will punish businesses and families even more. And for what? It’s all in the name of manmade global warming, which has pretty much been discredited. Even NASA, led by global-warming alarmist James Hansen, has made the AMAZING! discovery that the Earth is heated by (gasp!) the sun. There is no manmade global warming, but that’s not stopping Democrats in Congress from trying to destroy our economy in the name of it. Even Greenpeace is against this monstrous bill.
So make your voices heard. Call your congressman now. You can get their contact information here. Tell them to oppose the bill. Remember to be polite and respectful, but be firm. We don’t need to be scrambling around to stop this bill in the Senate. Let’s just put an end to this madness today.
Make the call.
Fasten your seatbelts, because this video’s a doozy:
It’s interesting that this is the position that Nancy Pelosi would choose to take. It’s especially interesting that she would be worried about keeping jobs for illegal immigrants, seeing as how unemployment for actual Americans is getting higher and higher. Shouldn’t she be worried about Americans having jobs first?
Also, the very concept of illegal immigration being patriotic is ridiculous. Illegal immigrants are coming here, breaking the law, and disrespecting our Constitution. Add in the fact that cities where you have large numbers of illegal immigrants see a sharp uptick in drug trafficking, violence, and overall crime, and I really don’t see the patriotism.
Look, I’m all for immigration… when people do it legally. You want to live here so bad? Do it the right way. And if you are willing to break our laws so cavalierly, then you clearly do not have the respect for this country that you ought to have if you’re going to live here as an American. This topic brings to mind a famous quote, and it’s what I’m going to leave you with here:
In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man’s becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American…There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile…We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language…and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.
— Theodore Roosevelt

Did anyone think she wouldn’t be?
Cindy Sheehan has been threatening to run for public office against Nancy Pelosi — as an independent, of course, since she now hates the Democratic Party as well — if she doesn’t try to impeach President Bush.
Well, today, she made it official.
I bet Nancy Pelosi is just shaking in her high heels!
Bidding farewell to her former peace camp near President Bush’s ranch, Cindy Sheehan began a nearly two-week trek toward Washington D.C. on Tuesday with her sights set on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Officially announcing her run against Pelosi in 2008 if the San Francisco congresswoman doesn’t move to impeach Bush by July 23, Sheehan said she relates to the people in her home state and chided Pelosi for keeping troops in danger.
“I know what Californians care about,” said Sheehan, who plans to run as an independent. “They don’t care about the ruling power elite.”
Sheehan first told The Associated Press on Sunday about her plans to challenge the top-ranking Democrat. She made it official Tuesday at Camp Casey, named after her 24-year-old son who was slain in Iraq and whose death first led Sheehan to Crawford in 2005 to demand a meeting with Bush.
Pelosi spokesman Brendan Daly said Tuesday that Pelosi’s “focus is on ending the war in Iraq.”
“She believes that the best way to support our troops in Iraq is to bring them home safely and soon,” Daly wrote in an e-mail to The Associated Press. “Democrats will continue to hold the Bush Administration accountable by having votes in July to change course in Iraq; to responsibly redeploy our troops; and to refocus our effort on protecting Americans from terrorism.”
But Sheehan said Tuesday that’s not enough.
“You can’t bring the troops home if you give George Bush $100 billion to wage this war,” she said. “You’re not supporting them. You’re keeping them in harm’s way.”
Sheehan’s caravan then plans to leave for Houston, the first stop on what her supporters termed a “journey for humanity.”
Sheehan, who turned 50 on Tuesday, in May stunned fellow anti-war activists by announcing that she would sell the 5-acre protest site. She said she felt her efforts had been in vain and that she had endured hatred and smear tactics from the left as well as from the right.
Sheehan said Bush should be impeached is because she believes he misled the public about the reasons for going to war, violated the Geneva Convention by torturing detainees and crossed the line by commuting the prison sentence of former vice presidential aide I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby.
Sheehan has said she lives in a Sacramento suburb but declined to disclose which city, citing safety reasons. The area is outside Pelosi’s district, but there are no residency requirements for congressional members, according to the California secretary of state’s office.
Sheehan spent a final long weekend at her 5-acre lot before ceremoniously handing the keys to its new owner, California radio talk show host Bree Walker.
Come on — she can’t seriously think she has a prayer of winning!
Hot Air had this video posted, of Cindy Sheehan on Fox News saying that “the little voice in Cindy Sheehan’s head” was what told her to run.
I’ve said it so many times, but her son must be spinning in his grave right now. He joined the Army in 2000, and then re-enlisted in 2004 — after the Iraqi War had begun, and he apparently even knew his unit was being sent to Iraq when he re-enlisted.
Casey Sheehan is a hero who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country — and his mother jumped onto that opportunity to exploit his sacrifice and dishonor him, in order to push her own radical agenda.
Is there anything sadder than that?
But, as I said, it isn’t like she has a prayer of winning. Nancy Pelosi has held that seat for 20 years. She ain’t going nowhere.
Meanwhile, my buddy John Hawkins of Right Wing News has what very well could be her very first campaign ad:
