Hey everyone! I’ve got some exciting news.

This year, I’ve signed up as a team captain for JDRF’s Walk to Cure Diabetes. My personal goal is to raise $1000 for the cause, and so, I’m currently recruiting team members and trying to collect donations.

For those not familiar with JDRF, here’s a little background:

Type 1, or juvenile, diabetes, is a devastating, often deadly disease that affects millions of people–a large and growing percentage of them children.

Many people think type 1 diabetes can be controlled by insulin. While insulin does keep people with type 1 diabetes alive, it is NOT a cure. Aside from the daily challenges of living with type 1 diabetes, there are many severe, often fatal, complications caused by the disease.

That’s the bad news… and yes, it’s pretty bad.

The good news, though, is that a cure for type 1 diabetes is within reach. In fact, JDRF funding and leadership is associated with most major scientific breakthroughs in type 1 diabetes research to date. And JDRF funds a major portion of all type 1 diabetes research worldwide, more than any other charity.

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is a great cause, and I’m hoping many of you will get involved. Anyone who has diabetes or know someone who does knows just how hard it can be to live with.

Now, those of you who live in the area are more than welcome to join my team and walk with me. The walk will take place on March 27, from 9:00 – 10:00 am here in Jacksonville, NC. So if you live close to Jacksonville, I hope you’ll sign up as a walker. You’ll get a chance to help raise money for a fantastic cause, we’ll have a fun morning, and heck, you can also meet me (since I’m just so amazing and all). It’ll be a great time, and I hope to see some of you there. For those of you who don’t live in the area, I hope you’ll find it in you to be generous and donate. I set a pretty darn high goal for myself, and I’m definitely going to need help getting there! But I’m hoping that all of us together can not only meet that goal but exceed it. I have absolute faith in all of you.

So, if you’d like to sign up to join my team or donate to sponsor me in the walk, you can do either here. Together, we can help make a difference!

    Big Mo Says:

Cass – you got it. Do you have a walk page?

We do the walk every year in St. Louis. My younger son was diagnosed with Type 1 three weeks before his third birthday. It absolutely sucks, but “fortunately” this is all that he knows. As far as he’s concerned, he’s had juvenile diabetes forever. My little buddy is on the pump – the OmniPod, which is pretty cool.

I would gladly assume his Type 1 if the Lord were so willing.
