After idiotically claiming that the system worked, Janet Napolitano is backpedaling furiously… now saying that the system, indeed, failed.

How were her comments taken out of context? They weren’t taken out of context at all. She was caught in a blunder and she’s trying to pin the blame on the media rather than herself for being such a gigantic idiot. But her response to Matt Lauer only made herself look worse. Rather than taking any responsibility for the incident herself, she keeps pointing the finger at the Bush administration (gee, we’ve never seen that tactic before). When questioned about how someone on a terror watchlist could get a visa, how someone whose father had warned the US about his son’s terrorist connections could even board a plane, how someone could get onto a plane without the explosives being detected, she had no answers whatsoever. She just keeps saying, “We’re asking those same questions.” But hey, at least she admits now that her department “failed miserably”.

Oh, and as for the Bush blaming? The terrorist was issued his visa in 2008, during the Bush administration. However, it was the Obama administration that received warnings of his jihadist tendencies, not Bush’s. It was Napolitano and the Obama administration that dropped the ball on this guy, not Bush. And let’s face it, Napolitano and Obama have been in place for almost an entire year. If Bush’s Homeland Security was so flawed, then why has Napolitano done nothing to fix it?

The answer is because this is not George Bush’s screw-up. It’s Obama’s, and Hillary’s, and Napolitano’s. It’s his administration that let this happen, and most notably, Janet Napolitano.

The question is, will she get fired for this? Let’s not kid ourselves. That will never happen. Obama will stick by her and in all likelihood, she was chewed out for her “the system worked” comment and that’s about the worst reprimand she’s gonna get. Any responsible administration would have heads rolling after this incident, but Obama’s response will basically be the political equivalent of covering his eyes with his hands and loudly singing, “LALALALA, I CAN’T SEE YOU!!”
