For all of my country music fans, and even those who don’t like country that much, this is a band you should know.

The Zac Brown Band is a group based out of Atlanta, with a great song called “Chicken Fried”, which has lyrics that give me goosebumps every time I hear them. Here is a live performance of the song:

I remember maybe the third or fourth I heard this song it was at the USMC ball last November. There were deafening cheers when these words were sung:

I thank God for my life
And for the stars and stripes
May freedom forever fly, let it ring.
Salute the ones who died
the ones that gave their lives so we dont have to sacrifice
All the things we love

And when I say deafening, I mean deafening. I couldn’t hear what the words were; if I hadn’t known what they were already, I wouldn’t have been able to tell. But all of those Marines loved that song and appreciated those words, which only endeared me even more to “Chicken Fried”.

It’s a great song anyway, but those lyrics just tip it over the edge for me. Every time I listen to it, I can’t help but think of how great a description it is of everyday life here in Flyover Country (that liberal elites so often deride). It’s an ode to the simple things in life that we take for granted, and hearing it never fails to put a smile on my face.

So, for anyone who doesn’t know the Zac Brown Band, now you do. I know a lot of my readers love “Chicken Fried” as much as I do!

Yikes. Above comment? I of course meant Cassy, rather than Casey. Sorry ’bout that.
