ModDem Says:
11:36 pm
I don’t think there is a lot parents can do. And what should they do? You can’t lock up teens.

It's called parenting, and teaching your kids right from wrong so that they can make responsible choices on their own when they're old enough. Douchebag.

Schools cannot ignore it and the abstinence thing is also a joke.

I wouldn't call something that works every time it's tried (at preventing pregnancy and STD's) "a joke." I also wouldn't be so quick to write off the fact that every major religion has adopted the same position. Might be something to it, eh? Douchebag.

Society and media are full of sex and there is no way to shield teens from it at this point. The genie is out of the bottle.

Here's an idea, douchebag. Provide moral instruction at home, turn off the fucking TV once in awhile, and spend some time with your kids. I'm sick of this attitude that since "sex is everywhere" there's nothing that can be done about it. Hogwash, douchebag.

I think it comes down to raising kids in a healthy and open environment where the idea of talking about sex is not anathema. While I respect people who instill a sense of responsibility and even a religious upbringing in their kids this doesn’t mean they won’t try sex. It’s a fact of life now.

I think it comes down to explaining to kids that risky behavior has consequences. It's a fact of life...uh....pretty much since the dawn of human history.

That’s why we need to look to ’safe sex’ as well as pregnancy prevention. It’s like kids and candy. We know they are going to eat sugar. How can we keep them from getting cavities?

Geesh, are yo listening to yourself? We know bad guys are going to shoot people and rob banks, so we'd better just make sure they have a safe and healthy environment to talk about it in. Maybe we should have some banks that are OK to rob, just so they can get it out of their system.

How about - putting the candy jar out of kids' reach when they're little, then when they're tall enough to reach it, explaining that eating too much candy causes cavities and that the parents aren't paying the dentist bills?

Did I mention you're a douchebag?

Now go play somewhere else, moonbat.

That’s why we need to look to ’safe sex’ as well as pregnancy prevention.

Right, because it's worked so darned well the last 30 years or so.

the abstinence thing is also a joke

Yep. Time to complain about the one approach that always, always works. Is it hard? Of course it is. But giving up and handing out condoms and pills to 13-14 year olds isn't working either. The super-abundance of birth control has done nothing to alleviate teen pregnancy. If that approach were a business, that business would have closed shop a long time ago.

I'm not opposed to birth control. I'm opposed to birth control in lieu of parental guidance. Giving up by saying "kids are gonna do it anyway" is defeatist and stupid. Teach your kids something approaching moral values. Inform them of the consequences, not all of which are physical, that come from having early sex. Explain to them that humping on prom night isn't a requirement, no matter how many of their friends do it.

This isn't rocket science. Somehow, an entire generation has come to believe that if we teach kids more about birth control, there will be fewer teen pregnancies, overwhelming evidence to the contrary. All of you responsible should be put in stocks and ridiculed.

Hmm..is this really that surprising? Back when I was in highschool..a good solid 15 yrs. ago, i worked at store and i see nothing different than those days than today. Parents buy their children clothes and then then say..my child forced me to get it.

Right.

Get a backbone and be a parent, not their best friend.

Halloween night downtown, young women less than 20 yrs. old are walking around with g-strings, garters, and a bra, and telling people to F off they made a whistle.

Yes, lets be proud of the new feminism. From hairy pits and legs an no bras to the wearing less than hookers for an evening out.

As for men, I do not have much to say. They eat it up and seem like sheep.

Cassy - I was shopping at Schnucks last night, and like most grocery stores, I couldn't avoid having sex thrown in my face. Specifically, the lastest issue of Cosmo had such lovely headlines as "Your Orgasm Face -- what he thinks when he sees it" and similar junk.

What I want to know is, if the soft porn of Cosmo & other women's rags can be sold openly with no covering at the checkout stand, why not Playboy & Penthouse? (Not that I would buy them, and YES it would be a stupid move.)

Seven of the eight say they are sexually active; of those seven, just one says she uses protection when having sex.

Obviously, the "safe sex" message isn't getting thru. Or it is just flat-out being ignored.

There was an entire generation of teenagers in the 1960s who were told that they were the moral voice of a new generation, and that anything they wanted to do was okay. "If it feels good, do it!" Then they grew up and had children, instilling in those kids the same values that they had. Shockingly, the results have been catastrophic. I'm sorry, did I say shockingly? I meant predictably.
