Gitmo would not have existed 50 years ago. Instead, the illegal combatants there would have been shot by firing squad after the battle was over.

Shannon: One minor point. The prisoners at Gitmo aren't criminals in the conventional sense. They are held there not as punishment, but to keep them off the battlefield while the military extracts any actionable intelligence from them. They're where they are for OUR protection & interests, not theirs. Gitmo is a POW camp, not a jail.

1) No, they won't be disappointed if Obama wins. They will be happy because Obama will operate with the type of destiny these people want - destruction of the US.

2) I do agree that it is wrong to hold people without confronting them with their crimes. But that disagreement does not contain one piece of data on how I think they should be confronted with those crimes. Even if suspected of a crime, confronting the suspected with that is better than not at all. Why? Basic human rights include the right to be confronted with the crimes one is accused of. Just because those that are being accused may not believe in those rights does not take away those rights. The need to protect the innocent is very important because otherwise those who would instill fear and control over the innocent will use such power to trap the innocent leaving only the criminals free.

I like the way the people who partake in these anti-U.S. costume parties wear masks/hoods. Seems they want to make themselves think they are really "out there" on the world's cutting edge, risking all for The Cause, and must disguise their faces to avoid the Bushitler-Cheney torture squads.

I wonder how many of these "bold" demonstrators took to the streets over the grisly beheadings, genital mutilations, etc. carried out by the "poor victims" they seem to love so much. The answer to that query tells me all I need to know about their supposed love of human rights.
